Do you ever wonder how come people put those “Baby on board” stickers on the back window of their car? Well I do and I don’t see a point to it or a good reason…

Do people put it on to cause a specific reaction from other drivers (have a laugh, there’s even a wiki page, to quote… “caution other drivers that an infant is traveling…”)?

Is it maybe to stop people overtaking, as the baby on board will just burst into tears seeing that mum or dad driver is the slowest on the road and will cause considerable stress to the child?

Or is it in hope others won’t aim at them in case of a crash or when people see it they might drive more carefully behind the car with that sticker? Surely if it’s about safe driving and behavior on the roads, that sticker should be on the windscreen of the said car (with the baby inside) to remind them of the responsibility, not to pass the responsibility to other drivers…?

Oh, here’s a thought. Maybe that sticker is meant to help in case the driver is pulled over by police, “but officer, I have a baby on board”…?

I mean, seriously? seeing this sticker what is expected of the driver of the vehicle following the car with the sticker… a) ask sat nav to re-route, so that I avoid following the “baby on board” car, b) break immediately, c) continue driving as usual without making any uncontrolled evasive maneuvers, d) retire from driving for the rest of your life so that you’re kept off the roads for the sake of the users with babies on board, e) speed up, overtake and throw lollies at the offending “baby on board” car…? I’ll stop here, think there’s enough options to guide anyone on what to do in case they find themselves following a car with “bob” sticker…

Could it be a badge of achievement? kind of a gold star? look, I made one! But then it’s also of inappropriate type of sharing a saucy detail about your sex life… might as well have a sticker for her “I don’t swallow” or a sticker if it’s his car “I came inside”… (not everyone needs to know you had sex, keep it private please…)

It definitely (hopefully) doesn’t have the “go fast stripes” effect on the driver, quite the opposite and it usually is to warn the people that the car in front is a mad house on wheels (depending on the child’s age and behavior on the day) and the driver is in distress, so call for ambulance to save the driver from a heart attack…

Oh and don’t even get me started on “princess on board” or other bullshit…

I don’t get it, I see it as absolutely pointless, but others do seem to decorate their cars with plenty of useless stickers, so there must be something in it, just not for me. And if we’re all responsible enough behind the wheel of our own car, we don’t need to “share” extra info or warnings with other users of the road…
