It’s Queen’s birthday Monday and it’s a day off here in New Zealand. We decided to go away for a night and the place came up whilst we were looking at other things. It looked pretty basic, but we thought how bad can it be? It had 2 baths outside that you can put on fire – joke – (put the fire on underneath of them to keep them warm) what was pretty appealing for a relaxing evening with vino and star gazing…

We arrived after 1.5hrs of driving at a cafe that has caves, glowworm caves. Cafe looked ok to be honest, considering it’s in a middle of nowhere.  There we got instructions on how to get to the accommodation, which was just across the street and up a hill. We were hoping for an amazing sunset as the sky looked like someone put sand on glass and blew on it, center of the blow being the sun, not sure if you can get the picture from that description…

When we got to the accommodation, there were plenty of jokes that we should sleep in the car instead, however we tried to rinse the baths, I setup the fire and got it going, while my partner tried to fill up the bath with buckets from the hut… the fire was on the go, but after plenty of rounds of 1/3 of warm buckets of water we realized there’s no point and we should have started few hours ago… so we put a blanket out (a poncho), filled up the glasses with wine, opened the sweet chili crisps and started to stair at the sky as few parts turned very pretty.

No glamorous stargazing in hot bath… unfortunately.

We ended the evening with having pretty tasty prawn coconut curry and a movie in bed and some more wine, crisps and cookies…

Also, unfortunately my partner started feeling really unwell, I didn’t want to say, but I think it was from the terror of the place and conditions…

We will not be coming back to this place, ever, at least we’ve established that much haha
